What is a vertebral subluxation?
Vertebral subluxation is a misalignment of one or more of the 24 vertebrae in the spinal column that causes alteration of nerve function and interference with the transmission of mental impulses. This alteration and interference results in lessening of the body’s inborn ability to express its maximum health potential.
What are chiropractic adjustments?
Chiropractic adjustments are gentle and specific approaches to correct misaligned vertebrae and promote proper nervous system function, allowing restoration and maintenance of health. Everyone from newborns to seniors can have vertebral subluxations that undermine good health!
What can result from subluxations of the spine?
Aches and Pains
Irritability
Stress
Fatigue
Bed Wetting
Constipation
Diarrhea
Stomach Troubles
Digestive Disorders
Flu
Lowered Resistance
Menstrual Problems
Dizziness
Etc.
These are only some of the common symptoms that can occur when a vertebral subluxation is present. Symptoms do not need to be present in order for a subluxation to exist. As Chiropractors, we recognize the body’s miraculous recuperative powers to heal and rejuvenate itself without the use of harsh drugs or chemicals.
How do you get sciatica?
It’s easy to trace some spinal problems to an event, such as a car accident. Yet, sciatica is often the result of cumulative damage. Years of bad posture, poor muscle tone, excess weight or countless other causes set the stage. Then, something simple like bending over to tie your shoes, can trigger an episode.
Can anything else cause sciatica?
Spinal decay can be another culprit. Instead of disc thinning that puts pressure on the sciatic nerve roots, arthritic bone spurs can intrude into the space normally reserved for the nerve.
Can chiropractic cure sciatica?
Only your body can do that. The chiropractic approach to sciatica—and to other health problems— is to help restore the way your spine works, reducing nerve irritation and revitalizing your own healing ability.
Will I have to get X-rays?
X-rays and other types of imaging can be helpful. Pictures of your spine, especially after trauma, can confirm our findings and make your care more precise. After we complete physical examinations we can tell if we need to utilize diagnostic imaging for further study.
Will I receive any medication for my pain?
No. Chiropractic doctors don’t prescribe drugs because we rely on natural methods.
How long until I feel better?
Some patients experience almost instant relief. Others discover that the healing process can take months, sometimes even years. Every patient recovers at his or her own pace. Factors which can affect the healing process include your age, your overall health condition, muscle tone, diet, and even your attitude.
When will I get my first adjustment?
It depends upon the nature of your complaint and how long it may take to study your examinations. This is a clinical decision and varies from patient to patient.
What if my insurance company doesn’t cover chiropractic?
While an insurance company or other third party may be helpful, be careful. Don’t allow a profit-motivated company make decisions about what you do with your health. Ultimately, good health is about personal responsibility.
Will I have to go for the rest of my life?
Some patients opt to continue with some type of regular chiropractic checkups or maintenance program. These patients show up for their visits feeling great. Their interest in wellness and prevention helps make sure that once they get well, they stay well.
